Jodocus Hondius / Henricus Hondius
Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) was een Vlaamse Carhograaf die zich in 1693 in Amsterdam vestigde. Daar richtte hij zijn uitgeverij op in het pand aan de Kalverstraat ‘Inde Wackeren Hondt’. Rond 1604 kocht hij, mede op aanraden van Petrus Bertius, de platen op uit de nalatenschap van Mercator. Aangevuld met 36 nieuwe kaarten kwam hij in 1606 een heruitgave van de nu te noemen Mercator-Hondius Atlas op de markt. De Atlas minor was een verkleinde uitgave. Later zetten zijn zoon Henricus en zijn schoonzoon Johannes Janssonius de uitgeverij voort.
Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) was a Flemish Carhographer who settled in Amsterdam in 1693. He founded his publishing house in the Kalverstraat ‘Inde Wackeren Hondt’. Around 1604, partly on the advice of Petrus Bertius, he bought the plates from Mercator’s estate. Supplemented with 36 new maps, a reissue of the Mercator-Hondius Atlas was released in 1606. The Atlas minor was a scaled-down edition. Later his son Henricus and his son-in-law Johannes Janssonius continued the publishing house.
